360 Tour Screen content. U2.
As the name suggests, the concept for this ground breaking tour has a gigantic expanding cylindrical video wall at its heart. Thanks to an innovative superstructure inspired by the LAX Theme Building, the band could perform ‘in the round’. Standing 48 metres tall on four cactus-like legs, this spider-like superstructure featured a glowing radio mast, suspended speakers and a huge circular video wall, which telescoped downwards into a multi-screen mosaic.
Controlled by soft & hardware designed by UVA, the wrap-round video/ animation which I designed was part of a protest dedicated to Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi over the track ‘Walk On’. The main challenge here was to create a continuity that could be appreciated by the audience from any point in the stadium. I also designed and directed visuals for the tracks ‘Ultraviolet’ and ‘Blue Room’.
